6 great books for autumn

Autumn time makes me want to read more. I mean I am a librarian and I do read for work.

But funny enough you never read things you want to read but rather things that other say is popular or “in at the moment”.

I haven’t read much of my own interest lately so I thought I would make this list of books I want to read this autumn but also what I should read for work.

Maybe this will inspire so reading for you and maybe you have some great book tips for me?

Books I want to reads

Uglies by Scott Westerfeld – My fellow librarian told me about this book. Its suppose to be about the near future where everyone goes through a plastic surgery to look perfect at the age of 16. The story is about a woman soon to turn 16, Tally. But Tally’s new friend Shay isn’t sure she wants to become a pretty. When Shay runs away, Tally learns about a whole new side of the pretty world– and it isn’t very pretty.

Tin man by Sarah Winman – Ellis and Michael are twelve when they first become friends, and for a long time it is just the two of them, cycling the streets of Oxford, teaching themselves how to swim, discovering poetry, and dodging the fists of overbearing fathers. And then one day this closest of friendships grows into something more.

Good in bed by Jennifer Weiner – For twenty-eight years, things have been tripping along nicely for Cannie Shapiro. Sure, her mother has come charging out of the closet, and her father has long since dropped out of her world. But she loves her friends, her rat terrier, Nifkin, and her job as pop culture reporter for The Philadelphia Examiner. She’s even made a tenuous peace with her plus-size body.

 

Books I’m reading for work

All books I’m reading for work is not set in stone yet. Tomorrow, 6 september, I’m starting a knitting cafe at the library where I’m going to read out loud.

Every time I’m going to be reading 3 books, I don’t finish them but I start them to give a taste of them. Than if anyone fancy them they have the choice to borrow the books home with them.

Tomorrow I’m reading:

Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy – Self-proclaimed fat girl Willowdean Dickson have always been very comfortable in her own skin. She like the word fat because it’s the real word that explains her best. One day she meets a hot guy named Bo and instead of finding new heights of self-assurance in her relationship with Bo, Will starts to doubt herself. So she sets out to take back her confidence by doing the most horrifying thing she can imagine: entering the Miss Clover City beauty pageant.

The Mangle street murder by M.R.G. Kasasian – Gower Street, London, 1882: Sidney Grice, London’s most famous personal detective, is expecting a visitor. He drains his fifth pot of morning tea, and glances outside, where a young, plain woman picks her way between the piles of horse-dung towards his front door.

The music shop by Rachel Joyce – 1988 Frank owns a music shop and the book revolves around him and all the customer asking for the “right” music. Frank help everyone find not only what they want but also what they need. Its a great story with strong connections to music.

After I graduated I became and librarian. This is the best job and I love it. I have been to different kind of libraries and been different kind of librarians.     Great synopsis! I have read loads recently and enjoyed Laura Purcell The Silent Companions and I’m currently reading Deborah Harkness because the series is coming out on Sky later this month! I have a thing about witches x

    I wanted to be a librarian when I was young! I loved the idea of being able to read all day long although I imagine there’s much more to it than that 😂

      Yeah we dont get Reading hours. We have to read at home even when its for work :/ so everything Ppl seem to know about our job is kinda fake xD cuz putting books on shelfs is a librarian assistents work. Kinda funny 🙂

    I did not read these books but they sound intriguing. I have to say that I am a bit jealous about the fact that you have to read for work….lol That is my dream …to get paid to read books all day long…ah…what a wonderful dream! Dumplin’ and The Mangle Street Murder sound fantastic…..I was a chubby kid once and I so wanted to be Miss Italia Queen……

    Thank you for sharing your list. I like the sound of dumplin. my most recent favourite books are water for elephants by Sarah groen , and my grandmother sends her regards and apologises, by fredrik backman. but they may have already appeared on your ‘popular’ books list!

    You’re lucky to have an autumn season. That’s like the perfect season for a cup of cocoa and a good book! I hope these books are available in my local bookstore. Lately, I have enjoyed reading Zeus’ Daughter by Barbara Robinette Moss. It’s her memoir. 😊

    I absolutely adored the uglies series and seeing the name has made me wanna go back and read it all over again! But I must resist because my tbr pile is so big I’ll drown under it in no time if I’m re-reading old favourites.
    But I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! X

    Elegant, short essays that somehow manage to read like lyrical poetry. Seemingly designed for regular folks, he doses crazy amounts of info into small amounts of words, and even includes a spoonful of humor.

    Just freaking read it and let it work on you.
